Latimer Calls For Action On Hutchinson River Parkway Bridge Strikes

After yet another truck-bridge collision on the Hutchinson River Parkway at the King Street Bridge in Rye Brook, Westchester County Executive George Latimer has called on the state Department of Transportation, the Trucking Association of New York and Rye Brook Village Officials to come together and find a solution once and for all.

The Greenwich Fire Department put out this truck fire in October 2014 after a truck collided with a Hutchinson River Parkway Bridge in Rye Brook, closing the adjoining Merritt Parkway.

The Rye Democrat said he is urgently calling for a meeting at the County Office Building to develop an enhanced and more aggressive plan to deter trucks from entering the Hutchison River Parkway.

The latest truck strike occurred earlier this week on the Hutch in Rye Brook on Thursday, May 31.

“We have had enough," Latimer said. "Thursday’s incident tells us that what has been done so far is not enough and we have to treat this like the serious problem that is it. The strikes are dangerous to motorists, pedestrians and those who live near the Parkway. This cannot go on – and I am adamant that it will not.”

No commercial vehicles are allowed on the Hutch or other passenger car parkways in New York state.

And here's another crash involving a truck at the same Hutch bridge location in October 2014.

Truck collisions along the Hutch are not unique to Rye Brook, however. In April, a truck struck an overpass near Wilmot Road at the New Rochelle-Scarsdale town line as reported here by Daily Voice.
